The keyboard was invented 150 years ago—long before modern computing, the internet, or generative AI. And yet it remains the primary tool we use to interact with technology. It wasn’t designed to move at the speed we think, and in 2025, it often feels like the thing that slows everything else down.

That led us to a simple but powerful question: What if you could talk to your computer the way you talk to a person? What if speech weren’t just an accessibility feature or smart speaker gimmick, but the default way we communicate with technology?

To answer that question, we decided to build Flow.

Wispr Flow reimagines the keyboard for the AI era: a voice-powered interface that feels fluid, expressive, and intelligent enough to be invisible. It doesn’t just capture what you say—it understands how you speak, adapts in real time, and helps turn raw thoughts into clear, structured language. By shifting from display-first to voice-first interaction, Flow opens the door to a world where we’re not tethered to our screens—and can communicate with technology the way we do with each other.

Voice is Replacing the Keyboard

Since launching Flow on desktop last year, we’ve seen a powerful response. Today, users rely on it more than their keyboard—writing 72% of their characters with Flow across nearly 70 different apps and websites. Each week, people speak more than 100 million words through Flow. And this is only growing. And because it adapts in real time—handling mid-sentence pivots, filler words, and shifts in tone—most of those words require little to no editing. Eight out of ten users who activate Flow are still using it six months later.

And earlier this month, we launched Flow for iOS, making it easier than ever to use your voice to write, edit, and create on the go. Tens of thousands of people have already downloaded the app, and just like on desktop, we’re seeing it quickly become part of their daily routines.

What’s most exciting isn’t just the momentum; it’s what it signals: people are beginning to replace their keyboards with voice. And for many, it’s already starting to feel second nature.

That shift—from typing to talking—is what’s guiding everything we’re building. And now, we’re ready to take the next step.

The Next Chapter for Wispr

Today, I’m sharing that we’ve raised a $30 million Series A, bringing our total funding to $56 million. The round was led by Matt Kraning at Menlo Ventures, who also joins our board, with participation from new investors including Evan Sharp (Cofounder, Pinterest), Henry Ward (CEO, Carta), Kenneth Schlenker (CEO, Opal), and Flo Crivello (CEO, Lindy)—alongside continued support from NEA, 8VC, Neo, and MVP.

Matt backed us early as an angel investor and has been a close partner in our journey from the beginning. He stood out to us because he’s one of the rare investors who’s actually done it: he built Expanse, scaled it through the AI wave, and sold the company to Palo Alto Networks in a $1.25 billion acquisition. He’s navigated ambiguity, launched into markets that didn’t exist yet, and brought hard-won experience that’s incredibly rare in the boardroom. When you’re building from first principles, that kind of insight is exactly what you want around the table.

“Wispr is pioneering one of the most important interface shifts in decades,” said Matt Kraning, Partner at Menlo Ventures. “The opportunity here isn’t just about dictation—it’s about making voice a foundational layer for how we communicate with technology. Tanay, Sahaj and the entire Wispr team combine technical depth with extraordinary product intuition, and they’re moving fast to turn that vision into reality.

What Comes Next

We’ll be using this new round of funding to help us grow the team across engineering and GTM roles, expand our product offering to other platforms like Android, support enterprise and multi-user needs, and go deeper on everything we’ve already started: smarter integrations, better personalization, and a seamless voice layer that works across your entire digital life.

We’re not just building a better dictation tool, we’re removing friction from everyday communication. When people use Flow, they tell us it feels like ideas move more easily from brain to screen. The momentum we’ve seen so far is incredibly energizing, and it’s a clear sign that our mission is resonating.

And we’re just getting started. If you want to see what Flow can do, try it for yourself. And if you want to help build what comes next, check out our careers page.
